Hockey Alums Return for Historic Weekend

The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department and the National W Club welcomed back over 50 UW Women’s Hockey Alumni and over 40 UW Men’s Hockey Alumni to Madison for the Celebrate the Legacy Hockey Reunion on October 19-20, 2012.
The weekend kicked off with festivities leading up to the grand opening of LaBahn Arena on Friday, October 19. Alumni and guests were able to take a tour of the newly renovated Men’s and Women’s Basketball locker rooms, team meal room, Men’s and Women’s Hockey locker rooms, Women’s Hockey offices, Men’s and Women’s Swimming team room and locker rooms, and LaBahn Arena. LaBahn Arena is the new UW Men’s Hockey practice arena and new home for UW Women’s Hockey home games and practice. Alumni and guests then took part in an open skate on Friday Afternoon on the LaBahn ice. A reception was held in the Nicholas Johnson Basketball Practice Pavilion on Friday evening and UW Hockey Alums then watched the inaugural UW Women’s Hockey game at LaBahn Arena in the evening.
On Saturday, October 20 UW Hockey Alumni and guests tailgated in the UW Field House prior to the Badger Football team’s game vs. Minnesota. UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez, UW Men’s Hockey Coach Mike Eaves, and National W Club Executive Director Terry Murawski all greeted the crowd and thanked them for their support and for returning to Madison (several alums returned from as far as Canada for the weekend) for this great gathering. UW Women’s Hockey Alumni were introduced on the field during the 1st quarter and the UW Men’s Hockey Alumni were introduced during the 2nd quarter, both with the current teams.
