DUG-OUT CLUB WINTER BASEBALL BANQUET SETS RECORD ATTENDANCE

This years’ Dug-Out Club Winter Baseball Banquet was held on January 18, 2010 at the Concourse Hotel in Madison and a record number of 510 baseball enthusiasts were in attendance. Milwaukee Brewers General Manager, Doug Melvin, was the featured speaker and wowed the crowd with his wit and insight regarding the Brewers upcoming season. Brewer Third Base Coach, Brad Fischer, and TV announcer, Brian Anderson, were also present for the festivities.

The DUG-OUT Club was organized in 1970 to promote and support the sport of baseball in the greater Madison area with its primary focus that of a “booster club” for the University of Wisconsin baseball program. Since that program was eliminated in 1991, emphasis has been placed on area youth and amateur baseball programs. The DUG-OUT Club has supported 40+ organizations since then with contributions totaling in excess of $245,000.

The National W Club, once again, supported the banquet by sponsoring a Table of 10 and the silent auction which took place at the banquet. Some former Badger baseball players who attended included Red Wilson, Jim Wilson, Dick Huxtable, Monte Phillips, Greg O'Brien, Dave Tymus, J.D. Thorne, Tom Shipley and Ron Krohn as well as former UW Baseball coaches, Tom Meyer and Steve Land.
