Paul Pohle Passes Away

The National W Club has learned of the passing of Paul Pohle (Swimming, 1942). Pohle passed away today, January 25, 2010, at the age of 88. Pohle, who started Pohle’s Badger Blast in the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area for Badger/Gopher football games at Minnesota, served as president of the National W Club in 1960-61.

Paul L. Pohle born 4/20/1921. After 88 great years passed away on 1/25/10. He took great pride in being a Wisconsin Badger (1942). His life’s passions were realized, those being the love and mutual support of his wife Jean Rea (Holgate); his children Bob (Suzanne), Jack (Terry), Jim-UW Swimming 1972-1976 (Susan), Julie (Bob), and Jennifer; his grandchildren Adam, Ike, Erin -UW Swimming 1997-1999, Jeremy, Jenna, Tyler, Caitlin, Solly, Naomi, Megan and Joey; and his great grandchildren Lauren and Brooke. He nurtured and maintained many friendships in his life and strove to stay in touch with many. Into an advanced age, he stayed involved and active. He was always the biggest Badger fan of all. He was a UW swimmer and 3-year letter winner. He was president of the National W Club from 1960-1961 and was an active member until his death. He was also the founder of the Minneapolis “Pohle’s” Badger Blast. For 25 years he worked in executive positions with Schlitz Brewing Co. In 1969 he and his brother Jack established Pohle Sales Inc., a beer distributorship in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Paul will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and thousands of Badger Fans.

A private farewell for the immediate family has been held. Friends will be notified of the date for “Paul’s Last Blast,” a celebration of his life. Paul would like all to know that “he’ll leave the light on for you”. Memorials may be made, in Paul’s name, to The Badger Fund, Kellner Hall, 1440 Monroe Street Madison, WI 53711
